This section begins with 3 miles of flatwater through a pretty wooded setting then transitions to Class 2-4 rapids for the last mile. This section is a great add-on to the beginning of a run down the
Top Yough.
Start where Oakland Sang Run Road swings close to the river near Miller's Run. There is a shoulder that provides room for several vehicles to park. The first 3.5 miles are flat but with current. Keep an eye out for wild life. We have seen eagles, deer, and even a family of bears in this stretch. When you see a horizon line with mist and waves jumping up, you know you have reached the rapids.
The first rapid is called Aime's Water Closet and is a challenging series of drops that is Class 4 in difficulty. Immediately below, the river necks down and goes over a 3-4 foot ledge with a powerful hole on the right. The remaining mile of this sections has lots of small drops through boulders and several long slides. After a mile, the bridge at Swallow Falls comes into view. Continue down the Top Yough for even more fun!
