Description
Illegal. Steep. Has been run. DO NOT GET CAUGHT. The North Saluda in the Greenville Watershed is extremely illegal. This is the only place, outside of nuke sites and military bases, I have ever seen with a federally owned road that has signs telling you not to stop or you will be arrested. The watershed people are really afraid that their water will be polluted or worse some terrorist will sneak in and poison the people of Greenville. As far fetched as it seems they are very serious. There are reports that the area has motion sensors but I find this story to be an unlikely urban legend. After all the deer, bears, and pigs would set them off all the time. Still this is a very high security area. That being said I know of at least two boaters that have boated the creek above the reservoir. Both said it was a good technical creek run. Someday I suspect the watershed will become a hot topic for public access but that has not happened yet.
