It appears that the majority of the distance from Bowman Lake to the S. Yuba confluence is not paddled. Perhaps because it is overly steep and congested?

The section that is commonly paddled is the last 1.8 miles from Artic Mine Road to the S Yuba confluence. Artic Mine Road is gated a short ways in, and washed out somewhere past that. Boaters can drop equipment at the gate and park a short ways back. The hike is said to take about one hour to reach the river. The paddling is said to be very high quality so well worth a hike. From the take out bridge continue driving upstream for about 1/2 mile, then turn left up the Artic Mine Road, which may not be marked.
Take Out:
Maybert Road bridge crosses Canyon Creek at the confluence, but you may have to look around for areas to park. There appears to be a low head dam just downstream of the bridge.
Getting There:
From Nevada City take highway 20 about 13 miles to Washington road. Turn north to Washington, then follow Maybert Road upstream along the SF Yuba to Canyon Creek. Expect about a 45 minute drive. Other routes are available from the east and north.

American Whitewater is partnering with Nevada Irrigation District (NID) and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to identify a preferred range of whitewater boating flows on this reach and on numerous other reaches in the Yuba and Bear watersheds. Information obtained from surveys completed by boaters will help us identify flow preferences for whitewater boating. Flow preferences determined from boater surveys will be used to evaluate possible effects on whitewater boating from Project operation and help define flow needs.

The FERC project number is P-2266 and information about the present license can be found at the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission website.
The initial FERC license for the Project expires April 30, 2013. NID intends to apply to FERC for a new license (Relicensing) using FERC's Integrated Licensing Process (ILP). NID intends to file with FERC a notice of intent to apply for a new license and a Pre-application Document (PAD) after November 1, 2007 but no later than April 30, 2008. NID plans to file an application for new license by April 30, 2011.
