2) Lake Creek to near Mapleton

This is a fun class II/III run that is also popular with fishermen. At low flows it is mostly class II but at high flows it pumps up to class III with a few great playspots. Many of the rapids are formed by bedrock shelves. The river has fairly consistent gradient with rapids distributed along the length of this run from the confluence with Lake Creek down to a point just above Mapleton where the river flattens out and tidal influence is apparent. The land along this run is mostly privately owned but there are a number of good access points, with several maintained by Lane County Parks. The river corridor is generally undeveloped with a few homes in small communities along the river and a timber mill along river right. While this run starts at Lake Creek, those looking for a longer trip can start their run on Lake Creek (many trips to Lake Creek end with a couple miles on this section of the Siuslaw) or the stretch of the Siuslaw above this one that runs along Stagecoach Road. Logistics: The put-in for this run is reached by heading to Highway 36 mile 8.4 where you turn onto Stagecoach Road. You can head 0.8 mile up Stagecoach Road (milepost 10.7 on this road) to a good informal access site on the Siuslaw. Another alternative is to launch on Lake Creek. Check the Lake Creek description for several alternatives if you want to do that run, but to put in just above the confluence with the Siuslaw, head 0.1 mile up Stagecoach Road (milepost 11.4) and turn on the drive to Konnie Memorial ODFW fishing access site. It's 0.5 mile upstream on this drive to the access point on Lake Creek above the confluence. Several options for a take-out exist: Lane County's Tide Wayside Access is at mile 5.7 on Highway 36. This is a standard take-out for those doing longer runs that start further upstream on Lake Creek. Informal free access points are available at Highway 36 mile 4.3 and 4.5. Lane County's Farnham Access is at mile 2.0 on Highway 36. This access is near the end of the whitewater. Highway 36 ends at the junction with Highway 126 (at mile post 14.3) in Mapleton. If you continue downstream on Highway 126 to mile post 14.0 there is an access on river right but the river is fairly flat here and most paddlers will want to utilize one of the options upstream.
