Description
A year-round, half-day option for paddling near Twin Falls Idaho. This short run is friendly III-IV at low water, but gets much harder as flows increase.
Locally known as the Sewer Run.
The shuttle is the primary challenge here. The take-out road on the north side washed out in 2017. The Yingst grade is now only used for foot and bike traffic.
Sewer Run has 4 rapids. It can be run at minimum flow but is very rocky. The rapids become powerful and pushy around 4,000 cfs and the broken bridge becomes a hazard to rafts. Water blasts multiple feet deep over the bridge at 20,000 cfs. The guard rails (possibly removable) and ramp added in 2024 will add to this already significant strainer hazard at moderate to high flows. The bridge was destroyed by high water decades ago.
There is no public driving access to take out at broken bridge. You must hike back to the put-in or team up with locals who have gate access.
Below broken bridge, there is a calm pool with plenty of recovery time before Auger Falls. At high flows, a large surf wave is rumored to exist here.
Auger Falls has been run multiple times at very low flows. It also features 4 main drops. #2 is the most technical due to a rock fall in recent years. Running Auger leaves you with a 1.5 mile hike back to the mountain bike trailhead parking area.
There is great potential for this whitewater run. Auger Falls park is owned by the city of Twin Falls. Adding parking near broken bridge and allowing access would be a significant gain for tourism and the whitewater community.
