This is a short but entertaining reach of the North Branch of the Oconto River which is often combined with
the upstream reach. There are two miles of flat/moving water between the County Highway W bridge and the start of Bagley Rapids.
Put-in is from the campground area of Bagley Rapids County Park, located just south of Mountain, WI. Note: this is a _fee area_. The river can be accessed behind some of the campsites in the north loop of the campground (to the right as one enters).
Bagley Rapids consists of about three quarters of a mile of class II rockbed rapids interspersed with three ledge drops. These ledge drops gradually increase in level of challenge, though none exceed class III at most flows. While everything is boat-scoutable, higher flows can create some aggresive hydraulics. The third ledge drop is outside the county park and flanked by private land with a cabin on river left. The owners here have been friendly and have allowed boaters to portage through their yard. Please be respectful here and confine on-land activities as close to the river bank as possible. There are several fine surf waves in the final gradient immediately below the third ledge.
A 0.4 mile paddle out on the waters of Chute Pond will bring you to the recommended take-out at a public boat landing on the northeast corner of the Kingston Rd bridge. Please do not block the ramp or the entrance immediately above. Bagley Rapids Road connects to Kingston Road from the campground making for a short shuttle, easy to bike or simply walk.
