Description

Dropping through the Gogebic Range only six or so miles to the west of it's better known tributary, the Brunsweiler, the Marengo has a larger watershed and may serve as a good alternative should the Brunsweiler be a little low. The rating is an educated guess as I have no concrete data at this time. Some of the lower gradient water could be eliminated by locating a put-in off Marengo River Rd (located just east of the bridge) about 1.6 miles from Town Hall Rd and a take-out at the end of Stienstra Rd (located about a quarter mile south of the bridge on Four Corner). This would yield a run of 8.2 miles with an average gradient of 31'/mile. Note that on the Topo map, the portion of the Marengo immediately downstream of the put-in is mislabeled as Hawkens Creek.
