Description
Put-in: Turn West from Hwy 7 at the "Who Would Have Thought It Gift Shop" North of Lurton. Take the right fork past the gift shop down the hill to Hurricane Creek. At the bottom of the hill the road forks. The left fork fords a creek and heads toward Buck Branch. The main road continues down and parallels Hurricane Creek. Continue upstream toward Cub Creek and park in a wide spot on the road. Some private land exists in the area, so be respectful to the property and don't block the road. Take-out: Turn West on Hwy 123 from Hwy 7 at Pelsor. Follow all the way down to the Ft. Douglas Bridge over the Big Piney Creek, this will at 2 miles to the run. Park here or turn right (North) on the East side of the bridge (river left) and go upstream 1.8 miles upto the confluence of Hurricane and Big Piney Creeks. Hazards: Log jams, blind drops, big holes to avoid at higher levels. Beautiful remote run through the Hurricane Creek Wilderness Area. The Ozark Highlands Trail parallels the creek for most of the way. See the description in the Ozark Whitewater Page.
