Several steep waterfalls and slides with no landing pools. Major boat abuse. Rises and falls very quickly. Not super high quality, but it's still fun if you're in the area with limited time.
At Hoy rd, you'll want to scramble down the steep hill to the shelf on river right. If you do put in at Hoy Rd. make sure to drive to The College Ave. Bridge and check out the start to your portage, unless you like running 20+ fter.'s onto slabs of rock. Actually, I'd just walk the whole run regardless of where I put in, as it's very steep with very few eddies. The first drop is about ten ft. downstream. If you don't like the looks of the first drop, then just head down to the take out and check out the last set of drops. Seal launch into the moving water just above the drop. This is the best and hardest drop on Cascadilla and involves a ten foot slide into a ten footer with a very tight landing. The water then spreads out before heading towards a totally clean 8 fter that can be run anywhere. You can't see the 8 fter from the putin and it's hard to get down to. From there, the run heads over a few small slides, one of which heads towards the right hand wall. You'll also see the foot bridge and College Ave. bridge appear after this drop, signaling you to get out on river left, run across college ave., and head down the steps back into the gorge. Try to be stealth when doing this, we didn't have any trouble, but it was also 7 am. After the waterfalls under/downstream of college ave., there are a few decent slides before another 20ft. cascade onto a slab immediately below the gorge trail bridge. We normally hike up to just below this drop and run the 0.25 miles back to the take out. This invloves 4 shallow slides, foreplay, bump n' grind, balls to the wall, and the clap which collectively drop about 80ft. The takeout is at the park at the meeting of University Ave., Lynn St., and Court St.
Try to be as low key as possible around this run. It's on Cornell Property, and CUPD tend to be very intolerent when you look like you're doing something dangerous that they don't understand. The gorge trial from collegetown to the takeout is technically closed from November to May, when water levels are generally the best; however, it is still heavily used and you aren't very visible except when you're right at the takeout. Parking at the put in would really difficult, but possible by taking a right at the light just on the river left side of the bridge. Another possiblity is the Cornell Parking garage on the right side of Hoy rd. just into Cornell's Campus (which is free after 5 and weekends, I think).
