Description
The rapids you see from the road are similar to anything else along the way - straight forward class 1 and 2 rapids with occasional small trees growing up in the channel. Scenic and litter-free, generally fast flowing, with a solid flatwater mile or two at the end to the bridge.  There is an alternate take-out where the road leaves the river and an old road runs down to it at a pull-out but it was marked 'private property'.    This would eliminate the flatwater and make for a shorter, more action filled day. This run is a perfect intro to kayaking, in SUP's or canoes, when the water is up enough to run the creek or even a day or two after. The red gage on the hwy 30 bridge read -4'' which is low on the upper FCF section but fine for this one.     Putting in just downstream of the 285 bridge at Owl Hole would be advisable any lower, and there is a road on river right that crosses a small wash before taking you to an excellent deep water start. We spent 2 hours on the run in long boats moving fast,  plan on 3 hrs or to find a shorter take out. Might make a great run to paddle down with someone who isn't ready for the upper section right after your run or an intro to whitewater as there are deep pools and some eddies to practice on.
