Description
Reportedly, an introductory river run used by local canoe and kayak clubs (as well as fishermen).
An anonymous contributor provides (2009-01-30):
_As this river is basically in my backyard I know it well. It has 3 sections that can be run._
_(1) From Hwy 80 near the town of Chunky to Hwy 80 further out from Chunky._
_This section is nice because both put in and take out are maintained parking areas and the run has the benefit of having a 0.6 mile hike from put-in to take-out. The river makes a large bend so between these 2 bridges 0.6 miles apart, there is 2.8 river miles (even though the locals call it '7 Mile Bend')._
_(2) From the take out of the first section to Point Wanita Lake Road._
_Again there is a maintained take out/put-it with concrete ramps like the first run. This run is 2.5 miles in length and both runs have several small 8-12 inch ledges on them._
_(3)Put in is on Point Wanita Lake Road and take out is at Stuckey Bridge which is a historic bridge with an interesting history._
_This section is the longest and most scenic. This run is 6.6 miles and actually has a very small surfing wave at 3.5-3.7 feet on the Chunky River gauge. The micro wave is in a set of 2 ledges just downstream of the Point Wanita Lake Road put-in. The river is quite shallow and has a sandstone bottom in most places._
_Thanks for that input!_
