Description
Location : This whitewater section is located in the town of Collins, NY, on Jennings Rd near the intersection of Lenox Rd. The put-in is at the bridge on Jennings Rd, ¼ mile North of the intersection of Jennings and Lenox. To get to the takeout, travel West on Lenox for 2 miles till Quaker Rd. Turn right (North) on Quaker and park at the intersection of Quaker and Ketchum Rd. The creek runs parallel with Lenox road. The Run: Park on the side of the road near the bridge and carry your boat down to the water. You put in 100' above the first falls (Mother's Day Falls). This falls can be run on either side or center and has a nice deep pool at the bottom. Height is approx. 15'. Another 150 yards downstream you come to the next falls which is about 9' high and funnels all the water to the left side. You need to run this far right to avoid getting slammed into the wall. From here, the creek is typical of, say, Eighteenmile Creek, only narrower. In another ½ mile you come to the third falls which is about 8'; this is run far left, as it has a hole similar to "Corkscrew" on the Upper S Branch of the Cattaraugus. The remainder of the creek has some strainers you may need to carry around. The gradient gets steeper on the last half with the occasional surf wave. It's not for beginner boaters for sure, due to wood that comes up fast. The run is 2 miles long and can be done in 45 minutes which includes scouting and a few carries over downed trees. This is on Private Property (so we hear), so it is not recommended for large groups. Have fun on this gem! Western New York Area Reaches Beaver Meadow Creek Canadaway Creek (1.) Canadaway Creek (2.)
