Description
YOU MUST GET PERMISSION FIRST BEFORE PADDLING DO NOT RUN THE FIRST WATERFALL!!!!   THE LAND TRUST WILL REVOKE OUR ACCESS IF WE ARE CAUGHT RUNNING THIS DROP!!!! Don't be the guy to ruin access for everyone else. NO KAYAKING ROCK CREEK ON THE FIRST AND LAST SATURDAYS OF THE MONTH! This is a CLASS V run with tough mandatory portages not for the weak hearted.  This is not a road side run.   This is not a Class IV run, it's hard , technical and manky.  In some parts there are pools, but they don't last long, and swimming some parts might end a paddling career For years this run was illegal. How, you may ask? Well there are 2 mandatory portages on private land (the 1st one is a 100' drop onto rocks) so you cannot run this creek without tresspassing (and you are trespassing if they don't grant permission). So... ASK PERMISSION AHEAD OF TIME! GO WITH A SMALL CREW! FOLLOW THE RULES! If you want to do this the run, do the work to get in here.  If you are good enough to be on this run you can track down the info from one of the local experts.  Since the access is  new, it is important for us to foster a good relationship with the Lula Lake Land Trust to gain access for everyone for years to come. If you do run Rock Creek,  park at the bridge on Lula Lake Road.   Do Not park on Land Trust Property. DO NOT RUN THE FIRST WATERFALL!!!!   THE LAND TRUST WILL REVOKE OUR ACCESS IF WE ARE CAUGHT RUNNING THIS DROP!!!! Don't be the guy to ruin access for everyone else. It is our intent to self-police ourselves and show that paddlers can be trusted and we can be great land stewards, even better than the hikers :) The 'unwritten rules' of Lula Lake: (These aren't meant to be broken) 1\. YOU MUST GET PERMISSION FROM THE PARK RANGERS FIRST. Without out it, go somewhere else and try another day. 2\. YOU MUST HAVE A SMALL GROUP More that six is too much. 3\. HAVE A SET SHUTTLE. Don't leave a car at the top. If you do, take the racks off and park away from the gate and Land Trust. 4\. DO NOT POACH THIS RUN. 5\. IF YOU ARE GROUP BEHIND AND SEE A GROUP PUTTING ON BEFORE YOU EVEN IF YOU HAVE PERMISSION GO TO (BEAR CREEK?) or somewhere else. , IT WILL BE THERE ANOTHER DAY. Remember discretion is our friend. 6\. TAKE A MESH BAG AND HAUL TRASH OUT FOR THE RANGERS. Take out an air bag, and grab all the plastic coke bottles you can. Everyone in your group must do this. We can get trash that the Rangers can't. 7\. TRY NOT TO PADDLE ON A DAY THAT IS OPEN TO THE DAY HIKERS, IF SO GET PERMISSION AND BE DISCREET. We do not need to be the entertainment for the day. Discretion is our friend. 8\. TO REPEAT YOU MUST HAVE PERMISSION FIRST from the Rangers. 9 THIS A CLASS V RUN! Do you have the skills? This isn't a run to find out on. This isn't a run to prove to your friends or yourself if you have what it takes. 10\. At Lula Falls portage quickly and discreetly , place rocks back that the hikers displace. 11\. Sign the waiver provided by the Park Rangers. Don't be that guy. 12\. Once run, do not post on a blog or board the name or date of the run. Remember discression is our friend. 13\. Get dressed at the take-out and perform a hot assault for your put-in. Get going! 14\. Line up your permission days before the rain event not the day of. This is the day of the internet and Weather Channel, you know if it's going to rain or not, plan it out and get permission beforehand. It's better to get skunked on the rain then to show up unannounced. 15\. If it gets out of hand , the Land trust Board of Directors can vote on us not being there. And a valuable beautiful resource will taken away from us. PLEASE DO NOT BE THAT GUY! The paddling community is a small one. No one wants that reputation.
