Description
Gurley creek is another Alabama run that is best just after a heavy rain in the area.  The correlation with the Cahaba and the Turkey creek gauge is a best guess. The first mile is fun, continuous class II+/III with little consequence.  After the first 1.5 miles this creek seems to get pretty flat and there are several river wide strainers that must be portaged.  Definitely not a destination run, but if you are in the area running Locust or Graves it can round out a good day of paddling. The only other rapid of note on this run is the dam at the end.  At lower water you can boof off the lip of the dam - at higher water take the slide down the left side. See Alabama Whitewater.
