Description
Description:  The lower section of Hurricane Creek has a four-foot ledge just downstream of the bridge on Oak Hill Road NE, then not much for about a mile.  Then, there is an action packed ¼-mile that starts with a 8-foot bedrock ledge, followed by 5 fun boulder rapids before things calm down again for the paddle out. Flows: Just like the upper section, it takes a big rain event to make it run and it drops out fast, but it does run a little more often than the upper.  So, if you can be there when it is still raining or has just stopped after 2+ inches of rain or within 12 hours after 3 inches of rain, it’s probably doable and if it is high enough to run the upper, you’re assured a good level for the lower.  The lower does get too high occasionally, but if it looks too high from the bridge at the put in, just go run the upper first and by then it will likely have dropped. Video: From 1:00-1:29 in this video shows a few of the rapids on Lower Hurricane Creek: https://youtu.be/4bNWSmAiqLk, but only a few and doesn’t show the falls, which is a fun ledge around 8-feet tall. Put In – Option 1: The bridge on Oak Hill Road NE here: https://goo.gl/maps/eRjkhG3KpxJ2 Put In – Option 2: Park on off the side of the road on Kennedy Drive NE here: https://goo.gl/maps/6p5CUBbogPQ2 and follow the hunters trail into the woods on the right until you reach a small tributary, follow or paddle the tributary until in reaches Hurricane Creek proper, right above the falls. Take Out – Option 1: A road in Little River Wildlife Management Area just before the confluence with the Little River here: https://goo.gl/maps/11P5738o1b92 Take Out – Option 2: A local swimming hole known as Blue Hole along at AL 35 upstream of LRC Falls here: https://goo.gl/maps/e4AsspzZTQT2
