Description
Access is the only thing keeping this creek from being an area classic. The road to the put in is usually snowed in when the creek is flowing.
The difficulty of the section from the Old Glory Mine to the confluence with the NF of Silver Creek is uncomfirmed, but rumored to be through deep gorges with class IV-IV+ whitewater, with the potential for harder whitewater. Most runs down Silver Creek start on the NF, which is a class V run.
Once below the NF Silver confluence the river is consistent in quality with many class IV (IV+) boulder gardens at medium flows, that could easily become class V with too much water. The quality of the run is hard to overstate.
Once on the Illinois, paddlers have 6 miles of easy floating with a couple class III's down the take out at Oak Flat.
