Description
Kirby Creek can be an entertaining alternate put-in for South Sauty on high water days, when the Sauty stick is over 24'' or so. It features three decent sized slides near the top, all of which can be boat scouted and run fairly easily. The second slide currently (Feb '21) has a log in the bottom right, but it is easily avoidable by starting left at the top. After the three slides, the creek calms down to class II until the confluence with South Sauty, where you can continue down to Bucks Pocket for a high water adventure or take out above Matheny's Ledge and head home. Stringer Creek, a tributary of Kirby, enters on the right around half way down. It has been run from the top, but the only drop of note (a straight forward 8 footer) is at the end and can be run as a hike-up from Kirby if desired.
