Description
From the put-in (downstream river right of the S Town Line Rd bridge in Leopolis) the first 3/4 of a mile is a meandering, riffly access paddle. (Current speed is decent so it won't take long.) After rounding a turn to the right, there is a distinct horizon line: a sloping ledge of 5-6'. At low-to-moderate flows, this can be run just about anywhere -- at higher flows one may wish to cut to the left corner to avoid being caught in a very sticky hole likely to form here. There is a fast class II run out with a small ledge shortly downstream. After a brief stretch of moving water, there is a constriction with a bend to the right that culminates with a play wave that can be nice. Take-out is just around the bend from there at the Branch Road bridge.
As this reach is fairly short, you may wish to combine it with one or more of these other reaches which are close by for a Shawano County double- or triple-header.
