Description
Coffee Pot Run
This is a very fun run that has amazing scenery and good rapids.
Put in at Upper Coffee Pot Campground- put in and parking are free for boaters
Take out
1\. The best take out is immediately after the last rapid. The rapids are continuous once they start and once over there is not any more. It is worth it when shuttling a car to take the 5 minutes to walk down to scout the takeout. There are trails going up the Lava Rock on river left with a boaters parking area at the end of Route 311. The take out is just a few miles from Upper Coffee Pot campground.
2. The guide books will say take out at bridge on the Kilgore-Yale Road. This results in a beautiful 2 mile long paddle along a slowly moving river through national forest. Almost nobody makes the full trek to the bridge. In the times it takes you to do that you could shuttle another run.
Nature of the run
From the campground it is a beautiful float for approximately a mile. Then the rapids begin and don't stop till the end. It is a wonderful class three run with big waves and good surf spots. The only hazard is occasional wood. It is sometimes better to scout the whole run by walking from the campground to check for strainers. The is a good trail on river left for the whole length of the run as the run is very popular with fly fishermen when not runoff season.
