About This Access Site
Black Hawk Park offers convenient access to the West Fork Cedar River near Cedar Falls, making it a popular launch point for both motorized boaters and paddlers. The boat ramp is easily accessible with ample parking, providing straightforward entry to the waterway. From here, paddlers can expect beginner-level conditions on the next segment, with a recreational float of approximately 3.6 miles to the next access point.

The park provides excellent amenities beyond river access, including a universally accessible fishing pier, hiking trails that wind through prairies and lowland forests, and multiple camping options at the Fogdall and Cedar Campgrounds (first-come, first-served basis). Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with white-tailed deer and wild turkeys commonly spotted in the area. Note that park boundaries may not be clearly marked throughout the property, so be mindful of private land when exploring beyond the main facilities.

For camping reservations or shelter inquiries, contact the Park Ranger at 319-493-9367.
