About This Access Site
The Highway 149 Bridge Boat Ramp provides public access to the Sabine River in Longview, located on the northeast side of the bridge crossing. To reach the ramp from Carthage, head southeast on US Highway 59, then turn east onto FM 2517 and continue approximately 4.5 miles to the access point. This is a leased public access area that operates year-round.

The Sabine River at this location is a major waterway—classified as a Stream Order 8 river with an average flow of over 9,100 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of nearly 6 feet per second. Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for a substantial river with moderate current. The river's gentle average gradient of 0.8 feet per mile makes it generally suitable for recreational boating, though conditions can vary seasonally. With 519 miles of river stretching to the Gulf of Mexico and a massive drainage area of nearly 9,600 square miles, this ramp offers access to an extensive waterway system suitable for extended paddling trips and multi-day excursions.
