Holts Landing provides a convenient public boat ramp access point on the Flambeau River near Butternut in Ashland County. This is a popular put-in location for paddlers exploring the upper Flambeau, with immediate access to approximately 4 miles of paddling downstream to Agenda Landing. The section features a mix of Class 2 rapids and flatwater, making it suitable for intermediate paddlers with some whitewater experience.
From Holts, paddlers can plan multi-segment trips using the well-developed access point system along Flambeau River Road, with several alternate landings available downstream. The area supports kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. This is part of the lower Flambeau system, which gradually transitions from whitewater sections to flatwater paddling as you progress downstream toward Park Falls and beyond.
