Island Park

Island Park is a 14-acre access point managed by the City of Salmon, offering two boat ramps and ample parking for paddlers and boaters launching on the Salmon River. The site includes picnic tables, benches, and restrooms with running water (open March 1 – November 30). The park operates daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. This is a solid put-in for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore this major river system.

The Salmon River at this location is a substantial waterway—a Stream Order 8 river with an average flow of over 13,000 cubic feet per second and a notable gradient of 23.1 feet per mile. These characteristics indicate moderate to strong current and moving water that requires attention, especially for less experienced paddlers. The river's elevation drop of nearly 8,000 feet over its 345-mile length means this is a dynamic, flowing river suitable for intermediate to advanced boaters. Nearby camping options at Tower Rock, Shoup Bridge, and Morgan Bar campgrounds (all reservable) make multi-day trips feasible.

**Practical tip:** If floating downstream, be aware that all river flow may be diverted through the wave park on the east side of Island Park during certain periods, requiring paddlers to navigate through that feature to reach Carmen Boat Ramp. Check current conditions before your trip.
