The Lock and Dam #1 site on the Cape Fear River provides an easily accessible public boat ramp and launch area for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats. Located off Highway 87 in Riegelwood, NC, the launch site has ample parking available.

The Cape Fear River is a major waterway, stretching 194 miles from its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean to its source in Chatham County. With an average flow of over 10,600 cubic feet per second and a total elevation drop of 161 feet, the river offers a mix of flatwater and moving current for paddlers to explore. The boat ramp provides direct access to this scenic and historic river corridor.

Beyond the launch site, the nearby Moores Creek National Battlefield offers opportunities for further exploration by land. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful natural setting and take advantage of the river's recreational amenities at this Corps of Engineers-managed access point.
