About This Access Site
**Location & Facilities:** This public boat ramp is located on Walling Drive (off Hostler Road) in Charles Town, WV, on the east bank of the Shenandoah River above Millville Hydro Electric Dam. The site features a concrete boat ramp with a paved parking lot, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. A dirt ramp is also available for hand-launching smaller watercraft.
**Paddling Conditions:** This access point provides entry to the Shenandoah River pool above the Millville Dam, which offers relatively calm water ideal for flatwater paddling and leisurely trips. The site is maintained by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and serves as a good starting point for exploring this section of the river. Note that this is an isolated access area; plan accordingly for shuttle logistics if you intend to paddle downstream beyond the dam area.
**Nearby Recreation:** The site is within easy reach of historically significant destinations, including Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (where the Shenandoah meets the Potomac River) and Antietam National Battlefield. A hiker-biker campsite is available within 10 miles at Huckleberry Hill for those planning overnight trips in the area.
