About This Access Site
The Paw Paw boat ramp on the South Branch Potomac River in Green Spring, WV, provides convenient access to a historically rich stretch of river known for scenic views and notable landmarks. This section features the famous Paw Paw Tunnel, Town Creek Aqueduct, and railroad crossings that serve as helpful navigation references. The immediate area around the ramp includes some light rapids, but these are easily navigable for kayakers and canoeists.

Boaters should note that the ramp is located near a bridge abutment and can be found by crossing two sets of train tracks at the Brunswick Marc Train Station, then turning right immediately after the last crossing. The Paw Paw area offers good services including year-round groceries and restaurants across the river in the town of Paw Paw. Nearby paddlers will find the Paw Paw Tunnel Campground (on the Maryland side at Mile 156 of the C&O Canal Towpath) a convenient overnight option with 10 campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Several other hiker-biker campsites are located within 10 miles along the canal towpath.
