About This Access Site
The Sandstone boat ramp, located at Robinson City Park, offers convenient access to both flat water paddling and more challenging sections of the Kettle River. This is an ideal launch point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore the river's varying character—paddlers can travel downstream toward Big Spring Falls or upstream into Class II-IV rapids depending on their skill level and water conditions. The access area is well-maintained with facilities including toilets and a boat ramp.

Robinson City Park provides limited first-come, first-served camping alongside the ramp, making it a good base for multi-day trips. The Sandstone area is particularly popular for flat water paddling, offering scenic views for recreational paddlers. Those seeking whitewater should note that the most runnable stretch for intermediate paddlers lies between County Road 52 (near Willow River) and Highway 23 near Sandstone, with rapids ranging from Class I-IV depending on water levels. For camping inquiries or additional information, contact Sandstone City Hall at (320) 245-5241. Printed canoe route maps are available at the Hinckley Fisheries office.
