Twin Bridges is a public boat ramp providing access to the Salmon River near White Bird in Idaho County. The ramp was recently extended and reinforced with a precast concrete extension, making it safer and easier to launch boats of all sizes—particularly during low water conditions when the extended ramp is especially valuable. The facility offers straightforward river access without the need for extensive portaging.
The Salmon River at this location is a major waterway with significant flow (averaging over 13,000 cubic feet per second) and moderate gradient (23.1 ft/mile average). Paddlers should be prepared for a powerful river with good current and expect challenging conditions, especially during spring runoff. The river supports year-round fishing for salmon and steelhead, and the area is popular for drift fishing and kayaking. Nearby Pittsburg Campground is available within 10 miles for those planning multi-day trips.
Both motorized and non-motorized boats are permitted on the Salmon River from this access point. Paddlers should check current river conditions and water levels before launching, as the Salmon River's gradient and flow demand respect and appropriate skill levels. This is an established access site managed by Idaho Fish & Game as part of the state's network of fishing and boating access areas.
