Description

Not yet showing. Dark Canyon is a major canyon on the left. When the reservoir is low, the river elevation here is about 3540 feet. Before the reservoir was filled, boaters encountered a major rapid here but as of 2021 a riffle was not even visible. The rapid is currently buried beneath the sediment of the Dominy Formation, formed when the sediment-laden water of the Colorado River hit the slackwater of the reservoir. As the reservoir drops, the historic channel may be revealed although the course the river chooses near the Dirty Devil confluence will have implications for the rate that can be expected to occur.
