The Chestnut Street boat ramp provides access to the Rock River, a major waterway in southern Wisconsin. This concrete ramp (16 feet wide) is one of four public launches in the Horicon area and is positioned on the south side of the dam, offering access to the Rock River's flowage toward Sinissippi Lake. This location is ideal for boaters and paddlers looking to explore the lower section of the river system rather than the marsh waters to the north.
The Rock River is a substantial waterway—nearly 300 miles long and a tributary of the Mississippi River—with a major flow averaging 8,773 cubic feet per second and relatively gentle gradients (1 ft/mile). These conditions make it suitable for a range of skill levels, though paddlers should be prepared for moderate currents and the character of a large, flowing river. The ramp's proximity to the 33,000-acre Horicon Marsh and nearby Horicon National Wildlife Refuge adds scenic value, making this an excellent base for exploring the region's significant wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities.
