Gravel Bin is a boat ramp take-out located on the North Umpqua River in Douglas County, OR, situated along Highway 138 about 1 mile upriver from the Steamboat Inn. This access point serves as a popular egress for paddlers completing multi-mile runs on this scenic, whitewater river. The ramp provides vehicle parking and river access, though **use caution when launching and retrieving**, as there are large voids between the concrete planks that can pose hazards.
The North Umpqua River in this area offers Class II-IV whitewater with an average gradient of 30 feet per mile, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced paddlers. Common trip configurations use Gravel Bin as the take-out for 13-mile runs starting upstream from Boulder Flat Campground. Water levels vary seasonally, and flow information should be checked before paddling.
The area offers excellent recreation opportunities beyond boating. Three reservable campgrounds lie within 10 miles (Horseshoe Bend, Bogus Creek, and Eagle Rock), and nearby day-use areas including Swiftwater and Wolf Creek provide fishing and hiking. **Note:** Oregon Health Authority maintains a permanent advisory for cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) on the Umpqua River system.
