The Hammett access site is located directly south of the town of Hammett in southwestern Idaho and offers a well-maintained concrete launch ramp with ample parking accommodating up to 12 vehicles and trailers. This Idaho Power-managed facility provides reliable access to the major Snake River system, a substantial waterway with significant current and volume.
Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for a major river environment. The Snake River at this location is a major waterway (stream order 9) with an average flow of roughly 49,000 cubic feet per second and average velocity of nearly 11 feet per second, making it suitable primarily for experienced boaters. The river's steep gradient (average 15.8 ft/mile) contributes to strong current conditions. This access point provides entry to a section with multiple designated camping areas downstream, though users must launch only at official designated boat launches.
The Hammett area offers additional amenities nearby, including local dining and recreation options just off the freeway, making it a convenient stop for longer paddling trips on the Snake River system.
