About This Access Site
The Huguenot Bridge boat ramp provides convenient and ADA-compliant access to the James River in Richmond, Virginia. This stretch of the river is relatively calm and flat, making it well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats.

The James River is a major waterway, flowing over 1,100 miles from its headwaters in the Appalachian Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. At the Huguenot Bridge access site, the river is over 10,000 square miles in drainage area, with an average flow of nearly 13,000 cubic feet per second. Paddlers can expect a leisurely flatwater experience, with a mild average gradient of 2 feet per mile.

The boat ramp itself was recently renovated to be fully accessible, with a wooden ramp for easy loading and unloading of small watercraft. Nearby recreation areas like Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site and Richmond National Battlefield Park offer additional opportunities for history and nature exploration along the river. This access point provides a peaceful launch point to experience the beauty and tranquility of the James River.
