Located just one mile west of Shelley in Bingham County, North Bingham Recreation Area provides a dedicated boat ramp for paddlers and boaters accessing the Snake River. This multi-use park offers convenient day-use facilities including picnic areas and parking, making it a straightforward launch point for various water activities.
The Snake River at this location is a major waterway with substantial flow (averaging nearly 50,000 cubic feet per second) and moderate gradient (15.8 ft/mile average). Paddlers should be prepared for a strong, fast-moving river typical of the upper Snake River reach. The ramp provides access to waters influenced by American Falls Reservoir upstream, so water levels and conditions may fluctuate seasonally. This site is well-suited for boaters and experienced paddlers comfortable with higher-velocity water, and anglers frequently use this access point. Additional outdoor recreation opportunities are nearby, including the striking Hell's Half Acre Wilderness Study Area and access to Caribou-Targhee National Forest lands.
