**Location & Facilities**
Shoshone Falls is a concrete boat ramp facility operated by the City of Twin Falls on the Snake River. The site includes restrooms, picnic areas, a dump station, and swimming access. The ramp provides launch access to one of the Pacific Northwest's most significant rivers—a major waterway (Stream Order 9) with an average flow of nearly 50,000 cubic feet per second and substantial gradient of 15.8 ft/mile, making it a powerful, fast-moving river.
**Important Regulations & Conditions**
All watercraft launched between Broken Bridge and Hansen Bridge must be inspected at Centennial Waterfront Park, Shoshone Falls, or Twin Falls Reservoir before launch and decontaminated upon exit. Note that irrigation diversions significantly reduce water flow over the falls during summer and fall, particularly in dry years. However, the scenic overlook and waterfall views remain impressive year-round. The site sits near the Murtaugh reach, which offers Class V whitewater when flows permit, indicating this is serious whitewater terrain.
**River Character**
Paddlers and boaters should respect the Snake River's size and power. With an average velocity of 10.81 feet per second and a substantial drainage area of 86,234 square miles, this is a major river demanding experience and proper equipment. Plan trips according to seasonal flow conditions and skill level.
