About This Access Site
West Access provides a developed boat ramp and parking area for launching onto the Snake River near Idaho Falls. Located west of a local ditch system, this day-use-only facility is managed as part of the Upper Snake River recreation corridor. The site includes a paved ramp, parking area, and restroom facilities with garbage and recycling bins. Day use is free, though river permits are required for groups over 15 people or institutional groups floating this section of the river.

The Snake River at this location is a major river system with an average flow of nearly 50,000 cubic feet per second and current velocities around 10.8 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for substantial water volume and moderate current conditions. With an average gradient of 15.8 feet per mile, this section offers moderate to fast-moving water suitable for experienced kayakers and canoeists. Be aware that busy days may see congestion at the ramp—plan accordingly and practice courtesy with other users.

The surrounding area offers excellent access to backcountry recreation, including proximity to Caribou-Targhee National Forest and the Hell's Half Acre Wilderness Study Area. Idaho Fish and Game manages the wildlife and fishing resources in this region. Contact local authorities or the Bureau of Reclamation for current conditions, permit information, and any seasonal flow changes before your visit.
