Mulberry - 3) HWY 23 (Turner's Bend) to Campbell's Cemetery (10 miles) (AR)
These comments refer to the rapid that begins just above the take-out and continues to just beyond the takeout, and based on observations from 2001-2007.
This can be a park and play spot at high flows.
The waves in upper portion of the wave train are optimum between 3 and 4 feet on either the Turner Bend or USGS gauges and are wshed out above 4.2 feet. Several surf waves will exist at optimum levels. Bow stalls are possible on these waves. At lower levels (2.2 to 3.0 feet) a small wave exists at the top of the wave train that can be an excellent spot for learning to front surf.
There are surfable waves in the lower portion of this rapid just adjacent to the takeout ledge at water levels between 3.2 and 6.0 feet. At lower range, the best wave tends to form just above the takeout ledge on river left. As the flow increases a surf wave tends to form just along the river right eddy.
