Description
The Low-Head Dam on Cherokee Creek presents an extremely dangerous hydraulic that can trap and recirculate watercraft and swimmers, creating an unescapable drowning machine. Paddlers must absolutely portage around this structure on river right, as any attempt to run or swim through the dam's backwash can be fatal. No recreational line exists through this hazard, and it should be considered a mandatory scout and mandatory portage for all watercraft.
