The Eureka access point serves paddlers and boaters on the upper Fox River in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Located near the historic Eureka Lock and Dam (approximately 2 miles west of Eureka off Eureka Lock Road), this site provides access to a large, meandering river system. The Fox River at this location is a Class 7 stream with an average flow of 2,346 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of 2.4 feet per mile, making it suitable for canoes and kayaks, though water conditions vary seasonally.
**Access and Rules:** This is a walk-in access only site with no motorized vehicles permitted on Upper Fox River Public Access properties. Camping and open fires are also prohibited. Paddlers should plan accordingly and note that nearby alternatives include the Highway O bridge access and several other launches downstream (Geneva Boat Launch at mile 56.5 and Batavia Riverwalk Ramp at mile 49.3 are popular options). The area is known for peaceful paddling and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
**River Character:** As a headwater stream near its source, the upper Fox River offers a scenic, low-gradient paddle through wetland areas with abundant waterfowl. The river's modest current (3.63 feet/second average velocity) and gentle slope make it accessible for paddlers of varying skill levels, though water levels and vegetation density can affect conditions seasonally.
