Located in Hinton near Raleigh County, Brooke Falls provides public access to the New River, one of the oldest river systems in North America. This WVDNR-maintained access site offers a convenient put-in point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to explore the scenic New River Gorge. The site sits in a region known for excellent smallmouth bass fishing and scenic paddling through rugged Appalachian terrain.
The New River in this area flows northward through deep canyons, featuring Class I-II whitewater depending on water levels and the specific stretch you plan to paddle. Paddlers should be prepared for a powerful, historic river with varying current and water conditions. Multiple informal access points exist along nearby routes (Routes 600 and 625), offering flexibility for planning multi-day trips or shuttle runs. The Bluestone River area nearby also provides additional paddling opportunities for those exploring the region.
Three campgrounds are located within 10 miles—Meadow Creek, Glade Creek, and War Ridge/Backus Mountain—making it convenient to plan overnight trips. New River Gorge National Park & Preserve encompasses much of the surrounding area, offering spectacular scenery and abundant recreation opportunities.
