About This Access Site
The Rocky Rapid Boat Ramp on the Colorado River in Castle Valley, Utah provides access to the renowned "Daily" stretch of the river. This headwater section of the major Colorado River system is known for its fast-moving current and class III-IV whitewater rapids. Paddlers and boaters should exercise caution when launching and take care to scout the rapids before proceeding.

The boat ramp is located about 17 miles from U.S. Highway 191 along Utah Highway 128. The launch puts in just below the Rocky Rapid, in a side channel on the river's left bank. At high water, it may be difficult to reach the takeout in time. Several campgrounds are available within 10 miles for those planning multi-day trips. Nearby recreation areas like the Portal Trail offer additional outdoor activities.

With an average flow of over 14,000 cubic feet per second and a gradient of 8.7 feet per mile, the Colorado River in this area demands strong paddling skills and proper safety precautions. Those new to the river should consider hiring a guide service. The nearest full-service outfitter is located in Moab, approximately 30 minutes away.
