The McKimmey (Point of Rocks) boat ramp provides one of the few public access points to the Potomac River in Loudoun County, Virginia. Located just off Route 672 near the Point of Rocks Bridge, this concrete ramp offers easy launching for kayaks, canoes, and trailered boats.
The Potomac River at this location is wide, slow-moving, and relatively flat, making it well-suited for paddling and motor boating. Nearby campgrounds like Bald Eagle Island and Turtle Run offer convenient overnight options for those looking to explore the river more extensively. The area is also rich in history, with the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park just a short distance upstream.
Boaters and paddlers should be aware that the Potomac can experience fluctuating water levels and currents, so checking conditions before launching is advised. Additionally, there is limited parking at the McKimmey ramp, accommodating around 10 vehicles. Those planning a longer trip may want to consider utilizing one of the other access points along the Potomac River corridor.
